This ACCPH accredited Certificate in Equine Facilitated Learning has been designed to offer a progression route from the online Introduction course. It is ideal for people currently coaching horse riding, or other professionals, who prefer a short course covering theory and practice with a focus upon practical application of skills.  An Equi-Scotia Ofqual, SQA, or other recognised accredited First Aid for Mental Health certification is required in order to complete the Certificate in EFL.  This course  is approximately 70 hours of learning which can be completed in 6-12 months.  Candidates can expect to gain skills enabling them to deliver therapeutic groundwork with horses.  All of the work aligns with the 5 domains of animal welfare and teaches ethical practice promoting wellness in horses and humans.  Applications are open for the Certificate course beginning online Monday 11th November 2024 with 3 practical workshop days in the Scottish Borders in April For course information e mail hello@equi-scotia.com

Assessment Methods
This course is ideal for anyone wishing to make the transition from horse riding instructor to facilitator of groundwork with horses. Non riding activities can generate new income without physical wear and tear on horses.
EFL activities are participant focused and empower people to be resourceful and make choices that support resilience & wellbeing.
It’s essential that applicants have completed the Equi-Scotia Online Introduction to Equine Facilitated Learning to gain entry to this programme. Entry is at the discretion of the centre, however it is expected that candidates should have achieved core skills (communication,numeracy, working with others, problem solving,and ICT) at SCQF level 4-5, or should be able to demonstrate equivalent experience.
It is desirable that applicants already hold a coaching and/or horse care qualification.
Applicants must be open to receiving feedback and taking responsibility for managing their own mental health and wellbeing.
Theory and practice on this course is centred around an SQA accredited award in First Aid for Mental Health through safe and ethical approaches to ground work with horses. Assessment is through observation of practical activities, in person or through video evidence, one reflective essay, and a professional discussion.

Application process

An online application form should be completed.Upon acceptance of the offer candidates are required to a pay deposit of £150 to secure their place. Please note the deposit is non-refundable should candidates decide not to enrol on the programme. If, due to unforeseen circumstances, Equi-Scotia has to cancel training then deposits will be refunded in full.
